Brainstorm Thinking

I’m not a linear thinker. When going from point A to point B, I often visit point A2 or jump to point C and then go back to point A.
In the end, I do end up at point B. I guess I like to take the scenic route.
To visualize, I think in terms of a brainstorm. I have constant thoughts and ideas going through my head. I also tend to think and process out loud.
Is this normal? I don’t know. Maybe it’s due to my left-handedness and right brain dominance.
In my line of work, it’s helpful to think this way. As a copywriter (Note to self: Write a post on what the heck a copywriter is. I seem to be explaining this term a lot to people lately…. See what I mean?), most people start with headlines and then write the content. I can start with a conclusion, write down random thoughts and sentences, curate tons of related information and then weave it all together at the end. I’d like to think it’s a talent. Sure it is.
It’s just my way of thinking and doing things. Often, it’s an advantage. It’s also confusing to people. I usually just tell people to trust me. It all works out in the end. Those that know me know what I can produce. It works.
I got the idea for this post as I was writing for a completely different blog. I had to stop, write my thoughts down, and return to the post. This is why I carry an idea notebook with me just about everywhere. Not a plain, boring notebook. It’s really a colorful journal. I’ve had several of them. They typically have a bold graphic design on the cover. On the inside is where I write down my ideas. My inspirations. My things I want to do but am not quite sure how to do them just yet. I go back to old ones every now and then for renewed inspiration. Or just to find that idea I finally know what to do with.
It’s how I get my brain to rest for a while. Until I get to the computer at least.
So, my question is this. How do you think? I can’t be the only one that thinks this way. Right?
